On Tuesday 20^th June 13 girls from year 5 & 6 attended the girls cricket county finals which took place at the Ageas bowl. Arriving early in the morning the girls seemed in high spirits and eager to get going. They got off to a tremendous start and went on to win their first game by 45 runs against Wimborne. We then had to play another team straight after which was the best game of cricket the girls had played in a while going up against St Joseph’s. The girls batted first, reaching a score of 65 runs and losing 5 wickets which was a great performance by the team. Then went on to bowl and managed to take 5 wickets of their own meaning they tied the game. With it being a group stage game we had to play all teams in our group. This meant we needed to watch the last game and hope that the team we played first could beat the team we tied with to send us through to the semi-finals. With us beating Wimborne by 45 runs we needed them to stop St Joseph’s getting more than 45 runs at the end of the game. With all eyes on the game the girls continued to show great spirits and great sportsmanship towards the other teams. We were amazed when we found out the team, we tied with only manage to win by 43 runs meaning that St Mary’s would be advancing to the semi-finals. An amazing achievement for our girls’ team. In the Semi-final we played Milford Junior School who were fantastic and gave us a great game. We showed great team spirit and made some great catches as well as some amazing bowling and batting throughout.  Although this meant that we did not progress any further getting to the semi-finals of the county championships was an amazing achievement. I would like to say a massive thank you to all the parents and children for such a wonderful day’s cricket.
