Basingstoke Schools CricketTournament
On Tuesday 25th June, our excellent boys’ team defeated Oakley at May’s Bounty in the final of the district cricket competition. Comprising a mix of Year 5 and 6 pupils, the boys maintained the St. Mary’s tradition of outstanding team spirit and respect for the opposition. They were unstinting in their encouragement of each other - whether celebrating a wicket or commiserating a dropped catch! Also, in the traditional spirit of cricket, they applauded the opposition team and shook hands at the end of the match.
The boys had already played a number of games over the last few weeks in order to reach the final stage and so finished the competition with a record of played 8, won 8! Each member of the team made a crucial contribution to our overall success and all played at a high level in batting, bowling and fielding.
Our team now progress to the County Final competition at the Hampshire Bowl (2nd July).
Many thanks to those parents who provided transport and who provided their wonderful support at the competition on the day.
