Year 3 learn more about Shabbat
Year 3 welcome a visitor to talk more about this Jewish ritual.
On Wednesday 17th January, Year 3 were visited by Karen who came from the Reading Synagogue to talk to us about how she celebrates Shabbat. She told us lots of interesting facts. Here is what Michaela found out about Shabbat:
Shabbat is a time where Jewish people rest from work and they are not allowed any electrics on.
It helps some Jewish people remember when God created the earth in 6 days and on the 7th day God rested.
During the Shabbat meal, they eat and drink Challah bread, Kiddush wine or grape juice.
The candles are lit to say a blessing and to show the beginning of Shabbat.
