Behaviour Policy Summary

At St Mary’s CE Junior School, we believe that children thrive in a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment. Our behaviour policy is rooted in our Christian values of love, courage, and creativity, and guided by the principle from John 10:10: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” We promote positive behaviour through our four school rules: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible and Be Respectful.

Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their actions and learning, supported by consistent expectations and positive reinforcement. Using a positive approach is vital and we use a range of rewards to celebrate success, including certificates, recognition boards and praise. When behaviour falls short, restorative approaches are used to help pupils reflect and make better choices, with clear consequences applied fairly and consistently.

The policy also outlines support for pupils with additional needs, procedures for serious incidents and a zero-tolerance approach to sexual harassment and violence. We work in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure every child feels valued, listened to and part of our One Family.
