St Mary's Remembers
St Mary's Remembers
At 11:00am on Firday the whole school took part in a two minute silence to show our respects as a school ahead of Armistice Day.
During Act of Worship on Monday, we talked about the significance of this day and the reason for wearing the poppy prior to today's silence. We also talked about Captain George Wellstead, a former pupil of hate school who lost his life during WWI.
On Remembrance Sunday pupils will lay a wreath on behalf of the Old Basing schools' at the war memorial at St Mary's Church as part of the Remembrance Sunday Service and at the war memorial in Basingstoke Town centre.
We also come together as a school to create our annual poppy display, which contains an individual poppy designed by every pupil in the school.
St Mary's shall remember them.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
