Willow workshop
What better way to see what it would be like to work in willow craft than having a go?
On Wednesday 19th October, year 5 were able to have a go at some willow craft with the help of http://thespecialbranch.org/index.htm. We did this because we are learning about life in the times of Basing House, our local history study. Having things like baskets, fences and other items made of willow was very common then and still is today, although not quite so essential. Today, every child made a fish (see picture) on a rod out of willow. Just making this one item took around 30 minutes and took 4 strands of willow. It was a great opportunity to feel what it would be like if this were your permanent job in a bygone era.
