Basingstoke Schools High 5 Netball Finals
Netball team through to the Hampshire Games
It was an exciting afternoon for 7 of our pupils, who took part in the Basingstoke Schools Netball finals held at the Russell Howard Complex. We started off in Pool A against Bishopswood, The Priory, Bramley, Great Binfields and St Mark’s, winning every game 8-1, 2-0, 14-0, 4-2 and 9-0. This success saw us through to the quarter finals against St Bedes. Some superb netball was played by both teams, who fought for every ball, yet the game ended in a draw. This put added pressure on our children as we went into extra time and then sudden death! (The 1st team to score a goal) Fortunately, we managed to scrape through to the final which was another tense match against Burghclere. The lead changed with every centre pass, but Burghclere managed to keep up the pressure and on the final whistle beat us by 3 goals.
All of our pupils received a silver medal which now ensures their place in the Hampshire Games in June of this year. They all came away feeling extremely proud of their performance, and are now looking forward to representing Basingstoke.
